I recently saw this food tidbit: Over 79 MILLION avocados will be eaten during the 2013 Super Bowl festivities. Dang, that’s a lot of avocados (and probably one of the healthier foods being consumed on that day!)
In all honesty, I have zero interest in watching the Super Bowl but I will happily partake of the food spread -especially if it includes avocados. I recently made this refreshing and unique citrus & avocado dip from Cooking Light magazine. It might sound strange but the tangy grapefruit, sweet orange, spicy jalapeño and creamy avocado are truly amazing together. Besides the traditional tortilla chips, you could serve it with:
- pita bread or pita chips
- use as a bruschetta topping
- add to fish tacos
- pair with grilled chicken or pork
- mix with beans and brown rice
Heck, why save it for just Super Bowl Sunday? This is one salsa I’ll be enjoying all winter long.
For your viewing, cooking and eating pleasure, here’s our roundup of dips and snacks perfect for Super Bowl Sunday (with a healthy twist but no need tell anyone!)

The Orange, Grapefruit and Avocado Salsa is DELICIOUS!!! I ate some straight from the bowl and served the rest with thin slices of toasted bread for lunch. It was the first time my husband ate a grapefruit, too! :)
