Find out the best and easiest way to keep your guacamole green!
Video here and details on the hack below:
We’ve all been here. It seems like within a day – sometimes hours – your gorgeous bowl of guacamole goes from bright green to unappealing brown.
In the past, I’ve tried adding extra lime juice because citrus can help deter the oxidation process. But while this trick can work on a single avocado, it really doesn’t work with a bowl of guac because you’d need A LOT of lime juice – like a cup – which would be too overpowering and not to mention ruin the consistency of your dip.
But here’s the trick to keep your guacamole green:
Pour a thin layer of water over top the guacamole and store it in an airtight container in the fridge.
The water layer provides a barrier from the oxygen that usually turns the green pigment to brown. When you are ready to eat, pour off the water, mix and serve.
Best and easiest way to keep that guacamole green via @tspbasil #healthykitchenhacks Click To TweetI’m telling you, this really works! The first time I read about this trick from The Kitchn, I did it twice with the same batch of guacamole and I had 3 extra days of bright green guacamole.
Try it and let me know if works for you in the comments below. And if you really want to step up your guac game, make this: Bacon + Roasted Garlic Guacamole – guests will definitely ask you for this recipe.

This is awesome. Who knew??! That "trick" about putting the pit in the guac never works. I'm so happy to find one that does work. Thanks!

Thanks for that tip. Will certainly be doing that I also find putting toooo much lemon or lime changes the taste too much. Will be able to prep early again Cheers Maureen

Seriously? I need to try this ASAP!!! Sadly, I've thrown out mucho guacamole (at least the top layer) that's gone brown. Love this tip, and, even better, I love the idea of adding bacon to my guacamole!!! :-)

Yep, it's always that top layer that goes brown. And bacon in guacamole is a very delicious thing :)
