Italian Easter Pies

Serve a traditional Italian Easter Pie this year like this savory greens version with hard-cooked eggs baked inside or a sweet pie made with ricotta and arborio rice.

Wha?? Easter is less than two weeks away? I feel like it really snuck up on us this year probably since it's right after the calendar changes over to April.

Both of these recipes are from the blog archives and both are just so good and special that I wanted to featured them again for Easter this year.

Egg & Swiss Chard Italian Easter Pie
Also known as Torta Pasqualina, if you want to go savory and wow your guests with the hard-cooked eggs inside, go with this traditional Italian Easter pie that I've given a healthy makeover to. RECIPE---> here.

Easter Ricotta Rice Pie with Raspberry Glaze
Know as Pastiera in Italy, this is kind of like rice pudding meets pie only so so much better. Ricotta, arborio rice and raspberries are the featured ingredients in this version I created. RECIPE-->here.

Or throw all caution to the wind and make both! That's what I'm planning on doing (granted, it will be after Easter since my sister-in-law is hosting this year and I'm bringing a salad.)

  1. Not one but 2 pies, they both looks fantastic! Heck yes! I adore savory pies! I have never had a Ricotta Rice Pie before...I really like a well made rice pudding so I am guessing that I would be into this as well! Happy Easter!

  6. I love Ricotta pie. It is also an Easter tradition in my Italian household. I will have to try the Egg and Swiss Chard. That sounds equally delicious.

    1. That's awesome - it was a tradition when I was a kid too and sadly, it stopped when my Italian grandma stopped hosting Easter. But I'm doing my best to revive the tradition 🙂 Let me know if you make the Egg & Swiss Chard Pie!

  7. I'm not sure what it is, but something about Easter makes me love it SO much. Maybe that spring is (supposed to) coming around? Both of these recipes look amazing and I am dying to try that cake!

  12. That Ricotta Pie looks so amazing. Love the idea of adding rice. Pinning now!! I'm trying to get psyched up for Easter and Passover, but we still have so much snow on the ground. We need to see some green here in the tundra soon 🙂

    1. I hear ya. While we haven't had as much snow as you guys - these past two March snow storms have put me over the edge (along with a 4th round of illness in our house - ENOUGH!)
