“Holy Garlic Scapes, Batman!” (My son has just discovered comic books so our home is filled with superhero references as of late.)
But seriously, this year, I COULD call these elusive green shoots emerging from new garlic, “holy.” Last year, I was swimming in green garlic. This year, since we moved mid-winter from my beloved garden, I was unable to plant the garlic bulbs in the autumn.
I use the terms interchangeably, but for a primer, click here for a description of green garlic vs. garlic scapes.
So, in the hopes that I can inspire you to search them out at a farmers market near you – and enjoy them for me – and please, please report back here, I’m posting all Deanna and my favorite garlic scapes recipes in this one spot. Enjoy!
Deanna’s Intro to Garlic Scapes
Deanna was a speaker at Eat Write Retreat this past weekend in Philly and had a blast meeting amazing food bloggers. So we decided to peruse some of the attendees’ blogs for garlic scape recipes and were not disappointed!
White Bean Dip with Scapes – Emily @West of The Loop
Emily lives in Chicago and shares her DIY kitchen adventures, family friendly recipes and her farmer market finds.
Garlic Scape Marinated Roasted Red Peppers – Sarah @ Sarah’s Cucina Bella
Sarah gave some wonderful low tech food photography tips at Eat Write Retreat and her blog is inviting (and drool worthy.)
Pasta with Garlic Scapes Pesto – Joanne @ Eats Well With Others
We love Joanne’s bio descriptor – she’s a lovely and smart blogger getting her MD/PhD in diabetic research and the girl can cook.
Kung Pao Shrimp – Lauren @ Healthy-Delicious
Let’s just say everything about Lauren’s blog (starting with the title) is totally in sync with our philosophy.
Have you ever tried garlic scapes or green garlic? What’s your favorite way to use them?
