How To Grill Lettuce
Upgrade your next salad and grill your lettuce! via @tspbail #healthykitchenhacks Click To TweetWhen it comes to cooking vegetables, I’m usually roasting them. But come summertime, the grill (both on the outside grill and inside on my trusty grill pan <—affiliate link!) becomes my go-to way to cook them.
I remember when I first had grilled lettuce. It was at a restaurant in Hagerstown, MD where my parents were living and it was an unbelievably delicious Caesar salad -the romaine hearts were cut in half and grilled. And I’ve been grilling lettuce ever since.
Romaine, red leaf, green leaf, Boston and bibb lettuce are the ones I usually grill as you can take a whole head and cut it in half easily. Here’s how to grill lettuce:
- Heat grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Cut the head of lettuce in half and brush each side with oil.
- Place on grill for 2 – 3 minutes until grill marks appear.
- Flip over and grill another 2 minutes, until slightly wilted.
- Serve as is or chop up grilled halves into bite-size pieces and add your favorite salad toppings.
My favorite way enjoy grilled lettuce is to grill Romaine lettuce, top it with Parmesan cheese, black pepper and this Anchovy-Free Caesar Dressing.

Honestly, I did not know I can grill lettuce. I got so used eating it fresh but the idea of grilled cheese is tempting.
