Molasses Almond Granola
Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. As a member of Cooking Light's Bloggers' Connection, Deanna and I were provided with cookbooks to review and give away, but the thoughts and opinions are my own.
My parents just drove 26 hours in the car from Montana to bring me my favorite granola. But I didn't have the heart to tell them that my mom's homemade granola recipe from my childhood is no longer my favorite. This recipe for Molasses Almond Granola is. (Sorry Mom - although we still loved having you visit!)
If that's any indication of the deliciousness of the other 199 recipes in the MyRecipe's America's Favorite Food cookbook, cooking from this book will mix up your 'favorites list'! The book contains: Fettuccine Alfredo with Bacon (from Cooking Light so you know you can make it healthfully more than once a year;) Pasta with Asparagus, Pancetta and Pine Nuts (with 60 reviews!) White Bean and Chicken Chili; Pork Chops with Country Gravy; and on and on. These are the 200 "most-tried and best-rated" recipes by the 6 million users of MyRecipes.com.
So it's not surprising that All-Time Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies was one of America's favorite foods - although it is decidedly not a Cooking Light recipe - I will be making it pronto. How could you not with a title like that?
It's because of the fact that MyRecipes recipes are kitchen tested and user-rated so thoroughly that it has become my first stop when I have an ingredient (like asparagus currently) and need a recipe idea. Plus since this is where the Cooking Light recipe box lives, there's almost always a light version of any recipe I could want to cook.
In this Molasses Almond Granola, I did swap in raisins and dried apricots for the cranberries and currents. (Apricots and raisins are in my mom's original recipe!) I also added an extra ½ cup oats to try to stretch the recipe since granola goes fast around here. (And this granola went extra fast, especially in yogurt parfaits for my kids!)

I make a lot of homemade granola and muesli -- for myself and gifting!
My friend and I actually had a granola making day. We went out, bought a ton of supplies to make a few variations and then split the results and had delish breakfast options that were also homemade.
That's a fabulous idea Elin! I'm going to 'borrow' it! Thanks so much for sharing!
I've never made homemade granola, but want to! I bet macaroni and cheese, chocolate cake, and chicken noodle soup are all in there!
The chicken noodle soup is one of the most commented recipes on the MyRecipes site. (:
Yes! And anything grilled- all the way!
A few grilled items...great thinking!
Your photos are stunning and your recipes sound delectable. We would love for you to share them at thefeastingeye.com. The Feasting Eye is still a bit new, but I think you will like what you see :-).
THanks Zach. We checked out your site and submitted some photos. Good luck!
I have made homemade granola once and would love to try some new recipes. Being southern when I think of great American recipes I think of fried chicken, banana pudding, apple pie, pulled pork, mac & cheese, veggie casseroles, corn bread and biscuits.
Oooo! I love the way your southern mind thinks about food...all favorites for this western girl too!
I never made homemade granola before. I will have to try it sometime soon. I think some of America's favorite recipes are Pasta and sauce, meat with mashed potatoes and a veggie, lasagna, any thing to do with a chicken dish and of course pizza!
Yup pizza is in there! Two or three meat and potatoes recipes too!
I've never made homemade granola, but would like to. America's favorite recipes include apple pie, chocolate pudding and fried chicken.
Those are all in there Meryl!
I haven't made homemade granola. Favorite American recipes are grilled cheese sandwiches, pizza, cheeseburgers, pancakes...
Yup those recipes are all in the cookbook...or on Cookinglight.com!
MyRecipes is usually my first stop when searching for recipes, and I always check the "Cooking Light" box because I love their recipes so much! I didn't realize that MyRecipes was publishing a cookbook, but it sounds like the perfect thing for every kitchen to have. You're super sweet to give away 4 copies!
Love the name of your blog Amy! We want lots of folks (or at least 4!) to benefit from this great cookbook! (:
Serena that granola looks fabulous! Thank you for commenting on my Cardamom cookies. I was surprised to hear from someone who even knows what Wheat Montana is! I lived in Montana for years and going to their bakery for a cinnamon roll is one of the things I miss the most!
My Grandma's farm was a short 60 miles from Wheat Montana. As you know, in Montana, 60 miles isn't far! Last time I got back for one of their cinnamon rolls was 2 year ago...I still think about them!
