Make a Perfect Peach Matcha Milkshake – matcha green tea ups energy PLUS calms the mind. Whip up this dreamy, creamy protein shake – for a deliciously productive day.
Matcha green tea has the effect of making my brain alert… yet calm at the same time.
Really?
I do love my morning coffee – but if I ever grab a second cup – well, hyper jitters tell me that was not a good idea.
But sometimes I need a second cup to power through a few more projects. So my routine has come to look like this:
- Coffee with milk and get a bit of work done
- Exercise
- Protein smoothie with a scoop of matcha to keep my energy going. No crazy hyper mom here!
So how does matcha both stimulate and calm the brain? The answer is the amino acid L-theanin which is unique to tea. But because matcha is finely ground tea leaves that you actually drink, you get more L-theanin than you would in tea in which green tea is just steeped and then removed from the water.
Matcha also has about two to three times more antioxidants than a regular green tea.
Deanna and I don’t have a ton of smoothie recipes – only our favorites. But I knew I had to repost this creation. I still make it all summer long – and with frozen peaches the rest of the year. Its floral-sweet peaches + herbal matcha was a match made in heaven. And the almond extract brings out the natural almond flavoring in my Homemade Protein Powder << Have you tried it yet? (It’s the most popular recipe on our site!)
Now in full disclosure, I liked this recipe best as pictured below. But as you can see, it’s not exactly ‘matcha green.’ So for the green smoothie pics, I added a half an avocado.
Oh, and one more ticky-tacky point: I call smoothies ‘milkshakes’ for my kids. They slurp them up with more enthusiasm. But this could also be called a Peach Matcha Protein Smoothie. Either way, enjoy.
And be calm. While getting lots accomplished! Stimulate your brain. Calm your mind: Perfect Peach Matcha Milkshake via @TspCurry Click To Tweet
PrintPerfect Peach Matcha Milkshake
- Yield: About 2 cups for 1 serving 1x
Description
Matcha green tea boosts energy PLUS calms at the same time. Whip up this dreamy creamy matcha protein milkshake for a deliciously productive morning.
Ingredients
- 4 ice cubes
- 1 peach, chopped (unpeeled)
- 1/2 cup protein powder or Homemade Protein Powder
- 1 cup plain kefir or Homemade Kefir
- 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 1/8–1/4 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in a blender in order listed above, placing the ice cubes into the blender first.
- Blend until smooth, add more kefir (or milk or water) to make not so thick.
Notes
For greener color, add 1/2 an avocado and a handful of spinach
Let the ingredients set in the blender for a few minutes so the liquid can hydrate the Homemade Protein Powder a bit; it thickens the milkshake even more because the Homemade Protein Powder contains oatmeal.
Freeze sliced ahead of time to make this milkshake extra thick – so thick you could eat with a spoon.
Have you ever tried matcha? Does it help keep your brain calm, but motivated?

This looks so good and refreshing! I have matcha tea occasionally but haven't tried adding matcha to my smoothie. ! I hear you on overdoing it on coffee! Sometimes that extra cup is too tempting to resist, but then afterwards you realize it probably wasn't the best idea!

I prefer matcha in an iced latte or in a smoothie. In a warm latte, it's just too, well, green. But cold, it's like the grassy flavors of matcha turn to cream...soooo creamy. When you and I get together for coffee some day...friends won't let friends drink a 2nd cup of coffee! (:
