Celebrate the pear during the fall and holidays with this easy-to-make crumble/crisp like dessert.

- 2/3 cup whole wheat pastry flour
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
- 6 ripe pears, cored and diced (about 4½ – 5 cups)
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- ¾ cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flours, ½ cup sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Add buttermilk and whisk until smooth (batter will be very thick.) Fold in pears and mix well. Spread batter into ungreased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a heat-proof bowl, add brown sugar and butter. Pour water over top and stir until melted. Pour mixture over top of batter (do not mix.) Bake for 45 minutes.
